From my kitchen
Say goodbye to store-bought chili oil. If I can make it fresh at home, extra crispy, garlicky, spicy, a little sweet, and way better… I’m making it at home.
Ramen, dumplings, rice, eggs… this goes on literally everything.
Ingredients
- 1¼ cups neutral oil
- 8–10 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- ¾ cup crispy fried onions, crushed
- ⅓ cup red pepper flakes
- 1½ tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1–1½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1–2 tsp rice vinegar or lemon juice
- Pinch of black pepper
Directions
- Mix ⅓ cup red pepper flakes, 1½ tbsp paprika, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder, 1–1½ tsp salt, 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey, 1 tbsp sesame seeds, a pinch of black pepper, and half of the ¾ cup crushed crispy fried onions.
- Gently fry 8–10 finely chopped garlic cloves in 1¼ cups neutral oil until lightly golden. Pour the hot oil and garlic over the dry ingredients.
- Let it sizzle, then stir in 1 tbsp soy sauce and 1–2 tsp rice vinegar or lemon juice.
- Once slightly cooled, mix in the rest of the ¾ cup crispy fried onions.
- Keep refrigerated because of the fresh garlic.
